How to Find an SAT Test Prep Course

How to Find an SAT Test Prep Course

If you are planning to take the SAT Reasoning Test in the coming months, you may want to start studying and preparing. When in this situation, many students turn to an SAT prep course. These courses are available all across the country and even online, but how do you find one?

Contact your local school district. Many schools have SAT study classes for high school juniors and seniors. These classes are usually teacher taught and offered right onsite. What is nice about taking courses offered by your school is that you do not have to travel far. Most classes are held before and after school or on select weekends. Although there are no guarantees, most school districts offer these refresher classes free to students.

Contact other nearby school districts. As previously stated, some school districts offer free or discounted SAT prep courses for their students. Unfortunately, not all do. If your school is small, you may have less than 100 students taking the SAT. Only a small percentage of those students opt for a prep course, meaning some schools see it as a waste of time. If your school district falls into this category, contact other nearby school districts, especially those large in size. You may be required to pay a small fee, as you not a district student.

Contact your local community college. When we think of college, degrees often come to mind. Yes, but community colleges offer more. Community colleges not only enable full and part-time students to get a degree, but they offer many community services too. These extra services may include SAT test prep. Not all community colleges offer SAT test prep courses to students, but a large number do. It will not hurt to call and ask. If a class is available, you will likely be charged a fee.

Contact your local vocational training centers. These centers come in a number of different formats. There are some designed for adults, those that partner with local school districts, and those that do both. They assist students and young adults in getting an education and relevant experience in a particular field, such as cosmetology or the auto industry. Also at these training centers, you are likely to find classes and courses open to the entire community. On occasion, you will see review and study classes for the SAT or ACT.

Use the internet. The internet makes it easy to find a SAT prep course. As previously stated, these courses are available in-person or online. If you want to take an online prep class, so that you can move at your own pace, perform a standard internet search. When doing so, use the phrase "online SAT course." You will get many responses. The course offered by the College Board, The Official SAT Course, comes highly rated and recommended. If using the internet to find a local study class, perform a standard internet search with your location and the phrase "SAT prep."

Look in your local classified ads. It is best to go directly to the source when looking for an SAT prep course. With that said, sometimes these courses come to you. If a high school, community college, or vocational training center is offering an SAT prep course, they may highlight the course and its availability in a local newspaper classified ad. The SAT is available in different months throughout the school year, but your best chance to find a local course is towards the beginning or end of the school year.

As you can see, there are many ways that you can find an SAT prep course. However, what if you cannot find a compatible course of if you cannot afford the costs? Look for a part-time tutor who operates as a volunteer. You can also buy printed study guides. These guides are cheaper and the same information is covered. Finally, you can review your school notes. After all, the SAT is designed to test you on what you learned in school. Much of the information covered is in your school notes and textbooks and this approach is free.
