The Drawback of Being Liked!

The Drawback of Being Liked!

One of the biggest advantages to following up is in the relationship it creates. Your customer views you as a friend - one she can turn to and rely on to be there with what she needs, when she needs it.

But it's not a one-way street. There are real benefits and advantages to you when your subscribers and fans really like you, too.

There are also some unexpected drawbacks!

One of these is the phenomenon of being everyone's best friend. You'll receive dozens (maybe more) personal emails; and along with the testimonials, you'll have people pouring out all their problems… or asking you to send your paid products for free, because of their desperate circumstances.

There's no way of knowing who's trying to get something for nothing, and who really is in dire straits. Besides, we all have our own problems and challenges, and many of the people who ask for free products simply aren't mature enough to realize they'd be taking money away from your family needs and making you work for free.

Don't waste time trying to figure out who's really "worthy" and who's not. Instead, have a special follow up letter just for situations like these - one that points them to a related report that is already a freebie. And if they ask a genuine business question, don't be afraid to give them a simple answer - just insert it into your special follow up note. (Sometimes, that titbit of info is what they remember most!)

You can be helpful and gracious - on semi-autopilot - without spending hours playing "Dear Abbie".
