Tips for Setting Up a Hidden Camera

Tips for Setting Up a Hidden Camera

Do you suspect your neighbor is stealing from your home or do you suspect your spouse is cheating on you in your own bed! If so, now is the time to get the proof that you need. In these instances, physical spying can be dangerous and time consuming, that is why video surveillance is recommended.

If you want to setup a hidden camera in your home, buy a new camera. If you opt for the video camera you use to record family functions, it will be easy to spot. This is because most personal use camcorders are large in size. When buying a new camera, look for compact sizes or those designed especially for spying. In fact, did you know that a stuffed animal eye or a pocket pen can hold a hidden camera?

In keeping with purchasing a video camcorder, opt for a motion activated camera. Most standard camcorders do not have a self-timer. This means that you must start the video yourself. If you suspect your spouse is cheating on you in the afternoon, your DVD or storage space may run out before the cheating occurs. So, you have to return home, turn the camera on, hide it, and get back to work. That is many tasks for a simple suspicion.

If you need to purchase a hidden camera, but are limited on financial resources, opt for a webcam. On average, they cost $100 or more less. When installing a webcam to use as a hidden camera at home, purchase one that allows activation and monitoring from a remote location. For example, don't let your cheating spouse do their thing and then use the computer, only to see a live feed of the bedroom on the screen.

In addition to opting for a webcam, look into nanny cams. Most fit into small spaces, such as the eye of a stuffed bear. You can easily hide this camera in many other spots, including a home décor piece, a pillow, a pile of clothes, and so forth. Nanny cams are not as cheap as webcams, but they are more affordable than camcorders. Although an ideal way to rely on video surveillance to find out about someone, you will only get video. State laws restrict the selling of hidden cameras with both audio and video. Usually, you can only have one or the other.

Once you have a working video recorder, hide it. Choose a wise location. For example, do you suspect your neighbor is breaking into your home and stealing? If so, do not leave your handheld video camera out on the kitchen table. You will not catch your thief because they will steal the camera. The only event in which a camera should be left in the open is if you have full control of it from a remote location, but even that is risky.

Don't just hide your camera, but hide it wisely. Experts recommend hiding a hidden camera in a vent. Yes, this does work, but not if you live in the Northeast and it is the middle of winter. If your vents are used, your hidden camera may pose a fire risk.

If you are a parent, it is important to take steps that are even more protective. If your teenager sees it, he or see may ask to use it. This draws attention to the fact that you are spying. Secondly, don't let them turn on the video camera to see an x-rated video of their mom. For young children, hide the camera wisely or it may be spotted. Remember that kids are more attentive than adults.

Finally, be sure to review the video. Whether your video is stored on a DVD, tape, computer, or media storage card, review it. If you are spying to catch a cheating spouse, this is a difficult step, but still a necessary one. After investing a lot of time and money to find out about a person and their habits, don't let your time and money go to waste.
