How To Investigate People for Free

Do you want to find out about someone you know? Whether that person is a suspected cheating spouse, new boyfriend, creepy neighbor, or suspicious coworker, you may want to start your own mini-investigation. Unfortunately, many mistakenly believe they need money to do so. Yes, money does help, but it isn't required. There are many ways that you can find out about someone for free. How?

Personal Inquires

Ask friends. Do you suspect your spouse is cheating on you or that your new girlfriend is keeping secrets? If so, ask friends. Start with your friends. Most have a keen eye and will let you know if anything about your new romantic partner or spouse seems fishy. In fact, it is common for friends to know about a cheating spouse, but many are fearful to say anything. Next, ask friends of the person in question. Of course, don't walk up to your new boyfriend's best friend and say “is he lying to me?” Instead, take the friendly roundabout approach and fish for details.

Ask family. Asking family is an easy way to find out about someone. Most family members will tell the truth, as some don't realize there is anything to hide. Are you meeting your girlfriend's parents? Ask about her days in college. This is a legitimate question to ask a parent, but you may get information that verifies your girlfriend was lying. For example, she may have lied about what college she attended or even attending school.

Ask neighbors. Even in instances when neighbors aren't on friendly terms with each other, most know what is happening in their neighborhood. Do you suspect one of your neighbors is up to no good? If so, ask another. He or she may have noticed the same behavior or have information to share. If you suspect your spouse is cheating on you at home, ask your neighbor. Just be sure the neighbor you ask isn't friends with the person you are investigating or your cover may be blown.

Use the Internet

Perform a standard internet search. You may be surprised how much a search on Yahoo or Google will turn up. Most websites where a person's name was listed will appear in search results. Was your neighbor previously arrested for drug possession? If so, you may find a news report highlighting the arrest or conviction. Does your spouse use their name on a classified website for dates? If so, that may appear in your internet search results.

Visit social networking websites. Many people mistakenly believe that only teenagers and college students use social networking websites, but that isn't true. Their use is increasing in numbers with adults. So, visit MySpace, FaceBook, and other websites. Search for who you want to find out about with their full name, nickname, or any known aliases. Since most internet users think only close friends are reading what they write online, you can gain a lot of insight into a person's true identity.

Investigate Locally

Visit the county office building. Did you know that many records are public? In most states, anyone can sift through marriage records, property deeds, civil lawsuits, and more. You may need to pay for a copy if you want to retrain one for your records, but viewing these documents should be free.

Spy. In most instances, spying does cost money, but there are ways around it. Do you have a video recorder in your home or one you can borrow? Use it. You do not need an expensive hidden spy camera. Instead, hide your camcorder in a hard-to-see location and you can spy on someone without being present.
