How to Tell If Your Spouse Is Cheating

How to Tell If Your Spouse Is Cheating

Do you suspect that your spouse may be cheating? Before you head for divorce, confirm your suspicions. So, how do you tell if a spouse is cheating?

Check their phone records. When checking phone records, it is best to opt for a cell phone. Most cheaters do not use a home phone to communicate with a secret lover, as there is too much risk. Get your hands on your spouse's phone and review their call log, text messages, picture messages, and so forth.

If you cannot get your hands on your spouse's phone, opt for a unique approach. That approach is setting up an online account through the carrier. In most cases, you need the cell phone number, account number, or last digits of a social security number. Since you are married to your spouse, this information should be easy to obtain. Be cautious, as some providers like Verizon, will send a message to the phone when an online account is setup. With a clever story, you can help your spouse setup their account.

Record conversations. Recording conversations that your spouse has can be tricky. This is true if they opt for a cell phone, as opposed to a home phone. Is there a room that your spouse enters to talk on their cell phone in private? First, this is a sign of cheating. Secondly, consider hiding a tape recorder in the room. You can at least hear their side of the conversation.

Install a video camera in the home. This is recommended if you not only think your spouse is cheating on you, but doing so in your own home. Although limited on time, arrive home a few minutes before your spouse does. Set a video camera on record, hide it, and leave. Opt for an ideal location where you can catch any action that occurs, but where the video camera will not be seen. If you have the money, buy a video camera that activates with motion.

Review their internet history. In terms of cheating, most spouses turn to online dating websites. In cases of workplace or bar affairs, the internet is still used for communication. To get started, look at your computer's internet history. Look for any damaging sites, such as online dating websites. Then, look for email account access. Even if you cannot gain access to the account, make sure it is one you recognize.

In keeping with reviewing internet history, don't be surprised if it is cleared. Experienced cheaters or those familiar with computers know to clear the history. This is just as much as a sign of guilt than finding damaging information. Another huge sign that your spouse may be cheating is if they have their own computer or log-in information with a private passport, preventing you from access.

Ask. Unless your spouse has decided they want out of the relationship, they will deny cheating. So, don't outright ask your spouse if he or she is cheating, but inquire about a lie you uncovered. Ask about an unknown number on their cell phone, why they have a new email account, or why they were visiting online dating websites. Even without a direct question, you may still find out if your spouse is cheating.

Ask friends and family. When leading a double life and carrying on an affair, some cheaters find it difficult to keep their lives separate. This means that close friends and family members likely know about the affair. Somewhere in the mix, you will find the weakest link. That weakest link is one who discussed the affair with their own partner or who feels sorry for you. Use this to your advantage to get information.

Spy. Spying is considered one of the best ways to catch a cheating spouse, but it also risky. If your spouse has a temper or is abuse, consider hiring a professional private investigator. When following a suspected cheater, use your best judgment. Never drive your own car, as your spouse will notice it, always stay enough distance behind, and let someone know where you are going and what you are doing.
