Unusual Test Anxiety Tips
Test anxiety is common. A few simple test anxiety tips can make all the difference in performance.
There is nothing like sitting down to take an examination and your mind goes blank. And this is after you have studied for hours. Preparation for examinations begins well in advance of sitting in that chair. Even if you haven't studied there are some tactics you can use to find whatever information is in that brain of yours.
Begin by Studying
Studying may be an insight into the obvious, but let's talk about how to study. When you sit down at your desk do the following preparation:
* Know why you're taking the test. I'm not talking about passing, I mean your ultimate goal. See yourself doing exactly what you would be doing if your ultimate goal was achieved. Focus on that image. Use all your senses to get fully immersed into where this test will eventually take you.
* Do a quick recall of what is contained in the material you are studying. You don't need to recall details. Those you'll study. Just highlight the topics.
* Make a statement similar to the following: "All I am studying and need to know enters my subconscious easily. The information from my studies joins with that I've already learned. I recall it with ease whenever I need it."
* Take three deep breaths and exhale each one deeply.
* Bring your attention to the center of your chest as well as the center of your forehead.
These strategies may take you about five minutes. They will assist by alerting your subconscious mind to what you are doing and the ultimate goal. Whenever you begin to feel anxious, run through the steps again quickly. Often you simply need to bring your focus back to your chest and forehead and take a deep breath.
The Day of the Examination
When you get up in the morning… or afternoon… repeat the above five steps. You'll do better if you stay away from your classmates who are stressing about the exam. Keep your focus on your chest and forehead, breathe deeply and tell your subconscious mind you're ready to access all the wonderful information stored within.
Even if you hadn't studied the way you know would be best, still use the five steps above. When you get to the statement, use the following or something similar, "I'm ready to tap into everything stored within my mind related to this material." Take your deep breaths, focus your attention and begin. If you become overwhelmed stop and breathe deeply.
